Welcome to Roisan

Roisan is a municipality at the gates of Aosta, at the entrance of Valpelline, which owes many of its qualities to its location: the baricentric orientation within the Region, lying on a slope that enjoys sunshine all year round, the mid-mountain context (we are at 860m altitude) that makes it a balcony overlooking the surrounding peaks - the Grand Combin, the Velan, Mont Fallere, and Monte Emilius.

The community is scattered in many hamlets - about thirty! - almost to enjoy as much sun exposure as possible. With its Ru, the ancient mostly channeled and walkable streams, the 76 km of mountain bike trails, and the 79 km of Nordic walking routes.

Outdoor activities dominate here, and even the numerous small churches seem to invite you to take a walk: in addition to the Parish Church of San Vittore (15th century), in various hamlets we find as many as 5 rural chapels, symbols of popular devotion, with magnificent colored facades and more bare interiors.

Roisan seems to continuously invite us to walk and move to the next group of houses.

Among its walls roam stories and secrets: one above all, the Secret indeed, a propitiatory refrain that is still handed down (and cannot be revealed), which was embroidered and sewn inside the jackets of soldiers. Is this why Roisan has never had a death in any war?

And then the story of Calvin's escape, the famous theologian, who is said to have crossed the now ruined Closellinaz bridge. Finally, the tales of the life of its most illustrious citizen, Bonifacio di Massinod, the surgeon of Count Amedeo VI of Savoy.
